Devlog 3: Boss Movement Behavior


Hello everyone! This is Blazer again, one of the developers working on FA and in charge of writing the Devlog.

For this week, our focus was the movement of the boss enemy. Despite the Boss being a level instead, we still have a Boss Enemy that you have to fend off. I won't be talking about the enemy specifically, but I will be covering the movement of the boss.

The intended interaction is for the player to move throughout the stage as Kayden. The player's mastery over Kayden's moveset will be tested. As the stage gets harder and harder, Kayden will need to pass through increasingly challenging hurdles.

In order to motivate the players to keep moving, the boss will chase Kayden from one side of the map. Once the Boss reaches Kayden, it will deal a considerable amount of damage and knockback. If you want to keep progressing in the game, you will have to outmaneuver the boss and use environmental hazards to take it out.

We adjusted so that the boss' speed is affected by the distance between the player and the boss. This way, the boss will always be on their toes, but not too fast that it becomes frustrating.

Next week, we will focus more on the boss' other behaviors.
